Blogger mail: The good, the bad and the ugly

As a blogger, I am fortunate enough to try out a lot of new products every month. Somethings I love, some a bit meh and others are just not great at all. With so much product coming through the door, I don’t always find the time to write individual blog posts reviewing everything I get. In fact at the moment I am finding it hard to get more than one post a week up! So to try and tell you about as much new makeup bits as possible, I have decided to write a new monthly series. Each month, I am going to write a post telling you about a number…

Violet Voss Holy Grail Palette Tutorial and review

If you follow any of my social media, you will have heard me talk about this palette again and again. The Violet Voss Holy Grail palette, is one of those palettes that has taken the hearts of many a beauty lover. When you look at it, it is not hard to see why. The Violet Voss palette is a warm tone lovers dream palette. It has 20 warm toned shadows that are a mix of both matte and shimmers. Often with eyeshadow palettes, there are either too many of the same type of colour, or not enough shades to create several different looks. This is most certainly not the case…

Spring time makeup

Chill Insurance asked me “Do you prefer to stay in or go out during the winter months?” During the winter I barely budge from the couch. My routine consists of pyjamas, fluffy slippers and face masks! However, as soon as March hits, I begin to get an itch to become somewhat of a social butterfly again. I don’t know if it is the new brighter clothes hitting the shops or the new makeup releases that have me dying for a night out. Spring time means a change in makeup, so for this collaboration I have picked out a few of my favourite item that are both new and old to…

Brand Spotlight : Benefit Cosmetics

I’ve decided that it is about time I started a new blog series on The Beautiful Truth. For the next few weeks/months, I am going to focus on my favourite products from different brands. I will also throw in a clanger or two if there are items I am not overly fond of by a particular brand. For my first brand spotlight, I have decided to take a look at some products from Benefit cosmetics. Benefit is a brand that I have actually never featured on the blog. If I am honest, for a very long time, I thought Benefit was extremely over priced for what it was. I think this sentiment…

2016 Budget favourites

2016 budget favourites

What a year 2016 was! For so many, 2016 will be chalked down as one to forget. It was the year that saw a multitude of celebrity deaths. World politics went a little of track and there seemed like there was a lot of personal heartache on my timeline.  However, for me, 2016 was one of the best yet. As 2016 was the year I became a mammy! I am sure you’ve heard it again and again, but there really is nothing that can prepare you for the love you feel for a tiny human. Even the sleepless nights are manageable, as you’re getting up to feed the tiny person you made and love!…

Save or Splurge: The Illuminating bases

At this time of year, I am all about trying to achieve the perfect glowing skin. When we enter the Spring time, we tend to leave behind the heavily made up skin and lean towards a lighter more glowing look.Rather than constantly changing up our foundation, one way of helping to achieve a more glowing look is with an illuminating base. An illuminating base is basically a primer or base that has illuminating qualities to it that will help your skin achieve a little more radiance or dare I say a glow from within look. Over the past few weeks and months I have been trailing a number of these bases…

CHARLOTTE TILBURY: MUST-HAVES, MAYBES AND MISSES

If this is your first time to encounter Sharon’s blog Behind Green Eyes, you have seriously been missing out. I love Sharon’s blog. She is beyond honest and absolutely hilarious. In fact she is hands down my favourite snap chatter. Her snaps crack me up on a regular basis. When I have a long list of snaps to view, hand on heart Sharon’s are the first ones that I watch. I have even been caught in public crying laughing at some of her snaps. She’s brilliant.  Sharon also has fantastically expensive taste in makeup, while at the same time she mixes it up with more budget brands. It blows my…

Products for highlighting

Like with contouring products, Highlighting products come in both cream and powder form. There are a million and one products out there to help you achieve the perfect glow, but I have narrowed it down to my favourite six and have divided it into 3 cream and 3 powder. When highlighting my skin, I tend to use both cream and powder at the same time. I use the cream products in the areas I want to highlight and also under the eye to brighten up this area and then I apply the powder products above the eye and on the high points of my cheekbones. Is this the correct way…

The Queen of all lipsticks. Mac Ruby Woo

I convinced myself for a long time that I didn’t need this lipstick. I already had two beautiful red lipsticks that I loved and sure what does a girl need with another read lipstick? Yet the more I saw this lipstick on people, the more I knew it had to be mine. While in Florida last July, I finally took the plunge and my god I am so happy I did. Max Factor Clump Defy Extensions Mascara

I am still in mourning for my eyelash extensions. Since my lash guru Michelle from The Pink Room has moved back to Belfast, I have decided to give my lashes a break from the extensions for a while. However, just because I am without extensions doesn’t mean I want to be without long fluttery lashes, and since I have had my lashes removed I have had the chance to try some really good mascaras, with the Max Factor Clump Defy Extensions Mascara being one of them. Ladies, let me introduce the replacement for my eyelash extensions. The Max Factor Clump Defy Extensions Mascara is said to give both volume and length to…

Becca shimmering skin perfector pressed in Moonstone

The Becca shimmering skin perfector pressed, was the first item on my hitlist when I went to Florida last month. Thrifty Tuesday: Max Factor Facefinity all day primer

How many of you use a primer? It is a step many people skip, but to me it is one of the most important, if not the most important step in your makeup routine. The key to beautiful looking skin is good preparation and a primer plays a key role in that. There are so many benefits to using a primer.  For example. no matter how small our pores are, liquid foundation seems to always makes them even more visible. Sometimes it is like pores have their own flashing lights to pull attention to them. Using a primer stops this, by sealing up the pores and allowing the foundation to glide on…

Powder Face – When makeup goes wrong

A little while ago, pictures were published of Angelina Jolie sporting some very funky looking makeup. While Angelina still looked stunning, it was very hard to look past the powder around her eyes, forehead, cheeks and chest.Angelina is the closest thing to perfect any human being can come, so to see her fall victim to this powder misshape, made her a little bit more normal in my eyes. Ange had fallen foul to the dreaded ‘ Powder Face’. This isn’t the first time “powder face” has made an appearance. Many celebrities, including, Miley Cyrus, Eva Longoria, Nicole Kidman and even the gorgeous Jon Hamm have found themselves splashed across newspapers…
