Blogger mail: The good, the bad and the ugly

As a blogger, I am fortunate enough to try out a lot of new products every month. Somethings I love, some a bit meh and others are just not great at all. With so much product coming through the door, I don’t always find the time to write individual blog posts reviewing everything I get. In fact at the moment I am finding it hard to get more than one post a week up! So to try and tell you about as much new makeup bits as possible, I have decided to write a new monthly series. Each month, I am going to write a post telling you about a number…

Pestle and Mortar Erase and Renew Double cleansing system

They say not all products are created equal and when it comes to cleaners this is definitely true. I have been through my fair share of cleansers since starting The Beautiful Truth, some were awful and some great. However, nothing has blown me away the way the Pestle and Mortar Erase and renew Double cleansing system has. I am very lazy when it comes to taking my makeup off and when I saw a double cleanse system coming through the door, I was doubtful if I would actually use it, as it seemed like a lot of effort. I honestly thought, who has the time for cleaning their face twice? However,…

Beauty products for pregnancy and beyond

Knowing what products you can and can’t use during pregnancy is a complete minefield. There are so many conflicting reports out there, that it is actually hard to find out what exactly you can and can’t use. I personally haven’t been OTT about watching what I used but as a rule of thumb, I went for as many paraben and sulphate free products as possible, while avoiding Salicylic acid, retinol, vitamin a, glycolic acid, hair removal products  and developing tans. While there is science behind avoiding the likes of the Salicylic acid, retinonals and vitamin a, the tanning products are up for debate as to whether you can use them or not…

Don’t you just love a little bit of sunshine and heat on your bones. It isn’t often we bask in beautiful weather, so when we do, we want our makeup to look nice and light, fresh and summery, rather than a melting mess. To help you look summer ready, I have put together a post with my summer makeup essentials to give you flawless and long lasting skin. To help keep the costs as low as possible, I have included some high end and budget alternatives where I can. SPF While most skincare products contain SPF unfortunately this is not enough to protect our skin from the suns harmful rays.…

How to get your makeup to sit better

Ever find your makeup just isn’t sitting right? Is it a case that you haven’t changed your routine up, but all of a sudden your makeup has a mind of it’s own and just looks funny? I often get emails from readers asking for advice on this very problem and while I am the furtherest thing from a skincare expert, I always have two recommendations on how to get your makeup to sit better and more often than not, it seems to solve the problem. First things first, is tackling the dreaded dehydration. Dehydrated skin , is skin that lacks water, but can still produce oil. So you can have oily…

La Roche Posay Toleraine Ultra eye contour

If you follow me on Snapchat ( @thebeauttruth) you will already know that a few weeks ago I began to have terrible problems with my under eye area. The skin under my eyes became very dry, thin and developed a serious amount of wrinkles over night. Not only that but my makeup was sitting really terribly in this area and after a few hours would wear off completely. It was like I had aged 25 years over night. You can see a little of what I mean in the picture below. I had put a lot of this problem down to pregnancy hormones, but when I posted on snapchat that I…

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Youth Cream

When it comes to moisturizer, The Body Shop have stolen my heart several times, with their Vitamin C moisturiser being on my holy grail list!!! A few weeks ago, their latest offering in skin care landed on my doorstep and it came just in time, as my skin was not in the best of condition after spending a number of days in hospital and sick in bed. While my skin looked fine, it was seriously lacking in moisture. The Drops of Youth moisturizer is part of a range of skin care products in the Drops of Youth range and while I received a number of these to try too, it…

Caudalie Makeup removing cleansing oil

For one reason or another over the past number of months, I have taken great care checking the ingredients of products that I put on my skin. While this is hard to do with makeup, it is easier to get more natural  and yet still effective skincare products. One skin care brand that uses natural ingredients and yet works a treat on the skin, is Caudalie. Caudalie is a French brand that uses no parabans, Phenoxyethanol or sulphates and is not only cruelty free but it doesn’t use any animal derived raw materials. Having had health issues, omitting chemicals from entering my body where I can is something that I am trying to…

Tailored skincare with Jeanne Brophy

Since starting the blog, I have lost count of the amount of skin care products I have tried out. Some I have loved and some I have absolutely hated ( Im looking at you Glam Glow). In recent months, I really feel that I have gotten my skin care routine right and my skin is in better condition than it has been in a very long time. In saying that, you will have heard me say time and time again, that no matter how good my skin feels on any one day, it can change and become a nightmare over night. I always felt that this is down to in…

Estee Lauder Idealist Pore Minimising Serum from The Loop

Are your pores causing you an issue? Do they always seem like a shining light on your face that no amount of makeup will cover? Does you makeup sink into your pores making them looking like gaping holes for the world to see? Have you tried the Estee Lauder Idealist Pore minimising serum yet? When it comes to skin care, in my opinion Estee lauder have hit the nail on the head so many times. Both the Advanced night repair for face and eyes are two of my favourite skin care products, and ones that I have repurchased time and time again. In fact, I honestly don’t think that there…

Asian Skincare heroes for dehydrated skin

I feel like I have finally cracked the secret to good skin care. My skin is in seriously the best condition it has ever been in. Long time readers of the blog will know that since I have no thyroid, my skin can act up from time to time. One of the main issues with my skin is dehydration and thanks to the two products below, I have finally found exactly what I need to keep my skin on track. I have many favourites when it comes to skin care, including the Pink Cow moisturiser and The Body shop Vitamin C moisturiser and I can now add the Bio Essence Aqua Droplet…

Time to finally ditch the makeup wipes with Bio Essence Miracle water

For years I have always thought makeup wipes were the easy option when it came to makeup removal. Yes, most evenings I have a decent skincare routine, but lets be honest, there are nights that you just can’t face the rigmarole of makeup removal and opt for the quick and easy wipe option. Well ladies, I have now found a way to take makeup off quicker than a wipe and also much more gentle on your skin. Bio essence miracle bio water jelly makeup remover is a gel makeup remover than is gentle on your skin, but strong enough so that the makeup literally slides off your face in seconds.  Due to…

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser

One of my favourite things about blogging, is when a product comes into my life, that I have heard very little about and yet I fall head over heels in love with it. That is what has happened to me with The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser. This little baby is my new love. This Vitamin C moisturizer is said to give tired, dull and grumpy skin a little nudge back in the direction of the much lusted after glow, while at the same time hydrating the skin. The Vitamin C moisturiser has a light weight gel formula that instantly sinks into the skin offering instant hydration. What I really like…

Image Skincare Max Facial at Renaissance Laser and Skincare clinic

I am a firm believer in treating yourself to a facial every few weeks or so and a few weeks ago I headed out to the Renaissance Laser and Skin care clinic in Howth to try the new Image Max facial. At the rate at which I’m raving about Image, you’re all going to think I am being sponsored by Image skin care, but I just really like the brand and it works well with my skin. The Renaissance Laser and Skin care clinic in Howth is a little different from places I normally go for my facials as it is a medically based clinic. While the clinic is lovely…

Bridal skincare routine

Typical that 9 weeks before the wedding, my skin decides it wants to change things up a bit and going on a spot fuelled rampage. For months my skin was exactly where I wanted it to be, thanks to Neelu, The Cream from the Pink Cow brand and a spot of micro needling at Biofresh Swords, I had finally gotten glowing, smooth and crystal clear skin, but oh no. Things needed to change and due to stress levels and my dodgy thyroid acting up again, I have gotten the most unmercifully oily T zone. I’m talking massive pores and a spotty chin and mouth area. To be fair, I had…

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator

When it comes to skin care, many people consider Dermalogica to be one of the best brands you can use to get beautiful looking skin. However, for whatever reason, it has been a brand that I have completely overlooked. The daily microfoliant exfoliator is the first product I have used from the Dermalogica range. Shock Horror, I know!! I am a huge fan of daily exfoliators, but the daily microfoliant exfoliator is a little different from any daily exfoliator I have used before. It is a Rice-based powder that you mix with water to make a paste to exfoliate your skin. It is recommended that you dispense a half tea spoon of…

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water review

When it comes to primers, Smashbox Cosmetics know more than a thing or two about prepping the skin to make sure we have a beautiful canvas to apply our foundation to. My all time favourite primer, and one I feel every woman should buy at least once, is the original Photo Finish primer. It is beyond doubt the best primer I have ever tried. So when Smashbox announced that they were releasing a new member of the primer family, my interest was more than raised. The latest addition to their primer range is the highly anticipated Photo Finish Primer water. The Smashbox Primer water is said to hydrate your skin,…

Micro Needling at Biofresh Swords

When you hear the words Micro Needling, thoughts of a medieval torture device springs to mind. Micro Needling sounds like the most horrendous kind of torutre you could put yourself through for good skin. When I told people I was undergoing a course of Micro needling in Biofresh Swords, people questioned my sanity. Why in God’s name would you let anyone roll needles over your face? Surely it hurts?  The questions were endless. However, since I have am now two treatments down, there is only one comment lately. Sinéad, your skin looks fantastic! While my skin is in good condition thanks to the introduction of The Cream Face from The Pink…

My skin care routine

A skin care routine post, is one of the most requested posts on The Beautiful Truth. However, I have held off until now, as I have always thought my skincare game was a little weak and dare I say lazy. Yet, do you know what? It works, because at the moment my skin is on point. I honestly can’t remember a time when my skin was in such good condition and if it works for me, hopefully it will work for some of you. For cleansing my face and taking off my makeup, I use the Liz Earle Hot Cloth cleanse and polish. I am seriously lazy when it comes…

Banish away dull looking skin with The Pink Cow Brand

Thankfully due to good genes and regular facials, I am blessed with fairly good skin. I am lucky, as my skin cooperates most of the time, but having no Thyroid and being on different medications can throw a few spanners in the works every so often. My skin can go from being dry  to oily skin in the space of a few days!! For the most part it is normal / combination. However, over the last few weeks the amount of people who have commented on how well my skin looks is unreal. Even my mother said something, and she never notices anything like that!  So what is the wonder product that has…
