When you hear the words Micro Needling, thoughts of a medieval torture device springs to mind. Micro Needling sounds like the most horrendous kind of torutre you could put yourself through for good skin. When I told people I was undergoing a course of Micro needling in Biofresh Swords, people questioned my sanity. Why in God’s name would you let anyone roll needles over your face? Surely it hurts? The questions were endless. However, since I have am now two treatments down, there is only one comment lately. Sinéad, your skin looks fantastic!
While my skin is in good condition thanks to the introduction of The Cream Face from The Pink Cow brand in my life, every bride to be needs to be treating themselves to facials every few weeks to make sure that their skin is in the best condition of your life. While facials are fantastic, Micro Needling brings your skin to a whole other level!
Micro needling is a non surgical treatment to help reduce the signs of ageing and scarring from both acne and surgery. It is said to tighten up the skin and help with hyper pigmetation. It does all this by stimulating the body’s own collagen production. As your skin is being pierced, this treatment kicks the skin into repair mode and as a result it begins to regenerate itself to give you beautiful looking skin.
Before the treatment began, my therapist Ciara, took every scrap of makeup off my skin and examined my skin under a UV light. I had never had this done before and was fascinated by it, but under the light Ciara was able to pin point any areas that were problematic. Ciara was able to see that my skin was in good condition, but the area around my eyes and upper lip showed up as having had a good bit of sun damage. This gave me a shock, as I am very good for covering my face from the sun during the summer, but just proved to me that I need to up my daily SPF. The UV light also highlighted that I am prone to oil around my nose and chin area, but also that my skin was a little on the dehydrated side on the forehead, and this was causing a small amount of fine lines.
Before the treatment, Ciara applied a numbing cream to my face and let it work it’s magic for about 15 minutes. Once my skin was sufficiently numb, she set to work . Using a sterile roller, Ciara moved the roller over the surface of my skin creating microscopic holes on my skin. The piercing of the skin with this roller, kicks your skin into repair mode , which produces more collagen and elastin and therefore makes your skin appear plumper and younger looking. For the most part you don’t feel any discomfort, but I did feel a little bit of discomfort around the temple area where the skin was thinner. It wasn’t sore, but rather uncomfortable.
Once the roller section of the treatment was finished, a collagen mask was placed on my face and left to soak in for around 15 minutes of so. As the skin had been pierced, the collagen mask was able to penetrate down to deeper levels of the skin, leaving you with even plumper looking skin.
While the mask was working it’s magic, Ciara gave me a shoulder and neck massage, bringing on some serious relaxation. I’m a sucker for a massage. I actually don’t treat myself to them enough!
There are so many benefits of Micro Needling. Firstly as I mentioned above, it increases the production of collagen in your skin. Secondly, there is little or no pain and very little down time. It is advised that you don’t wear any makeup for the day or two after. Finally Micro needling is much cheaper than other treatments that promise the same results. Micro Needling is €95 in Biofresh, but they regularly do offers and in January it was only €65 a session, so keep your eyes peeled on their Facebook page for up coming offers. Many salons charge up to €200 per treatment!
So did it work for me? Well, my skin appeared visibly plumper after the first treatment. The dehydration lines on my forehead had disappeared and my complexion was smoother. After the second treatment , I could absolutely see that the fine lines have been reduced and my skin is smoot. I am going for my final treatment in a weeks time, as it is recommended that you take 2 weeks between each treatment. While I did see some results, I was never going to get drastic results, as my skin is in such good condition. I don’t have a lot of fine lines or wrinkles and apart form the scar on my neck, I have no scaring. Even still I can honestly say my skin appears firmer and if you are someone that has fine lines, wrinkles, scaring of hyperpihmentation, with Micro Needling you will absolutely achieve better looking skin.
As for Biofresh Swords, I can’t recommend visiting Ciara highly enough. She is an absolute gem. She was beyond welcoming and professional and really took time to listen to any concerns I had with my skin. You can contact them through their Facebook page or in either their Swords or Drogheda branch.
