Portion control and meal plan guide

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM If you have not seen it yet, I can go off on complete tangents, like it is funny, I can lose track of my thoughts and what I am talking about when I am having a conversation with people and if you know me and are reading this, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you are in the Look Good, Feel Better Facebook Group you will have gradually started to realise that too, as I can totally go off point sometimes, and it got me thinking, yes it hurt a little, there are areas in all of our lives, that we can go…

Looking for support with your diet and exercise ?

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM Am I being selfish? One of the main reasons for setting up the ‘Look Good, Feel Better’ group is, I probably need it myself. I am getting married in April, so as I am sure many of you can understand, I want to look good for the wedding. Here is the thing, in my experience looking good is always a by-product of feeling better. Again from experience this time of year is extremely busy for me and like a lot of us when I get busy I can be likely to eat on the go without any preparation and that generally means eating less quality foods. Have you…

The Secret to achieving your health and fitness goals

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM As I write this post it is Thursday afternoon and I am currently sitting on a flight from Dublin to London. Earlier today, I got quite emotional over a message that I received from one of my clients and I felt compelled to share this message with you. I really think that the story behind the message  could really help many men or women that read it. Recently I completed a course that was delivered by a world-famous strength and condition coach called Mike Boyle. While taking part in this course he said something to me that really hit home with me.  “You will…

Could this be a reason why you’ve stopped losing weight?

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM Well guys are you keeping it simple? Are you implementing things you already know? Have you blamed anyone else for your health or fitness results this week?  Perhaps you have blamed your circumstances. We often find ourselves blaming other people from preventing us from completing our health and fitness goals during the week and instead something look for a divine inspiration to give ourselves the kick we need. It time to finally stop blaming circumstances and other people from achieving our goals and instead realises that you are in fact your biggest obstacle. So what do I actually mean by that? Often we place ourselves in a…

Not another blog post, by a fitness writer trying to motivate the masses

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM As I sit down to write this blog post it is now 1.39pm on Friday afternoon and I have sat over the laptop for the last hour.I met Sinead the other day and we had so many discussions around so many different topics. I was so excited and so pumped up for this series, that I thought I would never have a problem with picking topics to write about. Yet even as I sit down and write my opening paragraph,  I am still unsure what the topic of this blog post will be. And here is the problem, I am not heeding my own advice. In my…

Look Good, Feel Better: The Bigger Picture to Health, Fitness and Nutrition

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM This is going to be a hard read for some. Why? Because it might not give the answers you want to hear or even care about. Your health, your fitness are one thing but your relationship with food is almost a mirror of how you are coping in your personal life. But first the bigger picture. I want it to be clear, I am a Strength and Conditioning coach where my primary training is based around athletic performance, injury and pain reduction while building strength and fitness. I am not a dietician, I am not even going to give myself the label of nutrition coach which along…

Look Good, Feel Better: 7 reasons the Fitness Industry does not work for 95% of people

Guest Contributor: Noel Flynn from ABC GYM Do you have a glass of wine and feel guilty about it? Perhaps you’ve picked up that bar of chocolate that was teasing you at the checkout and said to yourself ‘No I need to have willpower’ and spent the rest of the evening wanting it. Maybe you think about every bit of food you eat wondering is this good or bad for me because you watched a TV show where every food known to man will make you sick, fat or both!! For me the fitness industry is badly broken! Remember this is what earns me my living, it is a job I truly love…

5 nutrition myths busted

If you’re after a blogger who says it like it is and isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers going against the grain, then look no further than Claire from the blog Claire by Reverie. I have personally been reading Claire’s for a while now. She previously, went under the guise of Volta Fitness and  Music and everything, but now she has consolidated her blogs into Claire by Reverie, which she describes as a  beauty blog with something more. For today’s post, Claire has touched on something that both she and I are passionate about. Busting nutrition myths. No I have not suddenly turned into a nutrition guru, I mean one quick look at me will attest to that, but Far…

Diary of a Crossfit newbie

It is a bit of an oddity, that I am writing a fitness post. I am most certainly not a gym bunny, nor do I regularly take part in any form of exercise. In fact the height of my exercise for almost 2 years, has been the odd stroll around the Phoenix park to try and help shift a few pounds. Exercise is honestly just not my thing. Makeup and lounging on the couch with the laptop are my thing. I most certainly never thought that I would find myself back in a gym, never mind a Crossfit gym. To me Crossfit is a massively scary gym, full of  muscly men…
