Waxing is one of those things most people do, but rarely talk about. I am personally not a waxer, i can count on one hand the amount I’ve had due to the fact I have the most pathetic pain threshold. Add to that, the fact that a few years back I had the most horrendous waxing experience imaginable and you will understand why I tend to be an at home kinda girl.
A few years back, I took a notion to start waxing. I bought a Group On voucher and was proud as punch heading off to visit the salon to cash my voucher in. It was not a pleasant experience to say the least. The girl doing the wax was like something out of the army and commanded I jump on the table and get to work. She proceeded to use the old fashioned method of wax and strips of material and to say the pain was unimaginable. I actually tried to stop her half way through, but she was having none of it and told me to man up and stop being a baby. To say I walked out of there in agony and vowing never to get waxed again. Thankfully my experience in Brazilia last week could not have been further for my previous waxing experience.
Brazila is nestled in amongst the hustle and bustle of South Williams street. From the minute you walk up the stairs, you are welcomed into a relaxing environment and it doesn’t feel like you’re in town at all. The waiting room is filled with comfy seats and a tv playing movies to keep you entertained during the short wait for your therapist. My fear of what lay ahead honestly dissipated while I waited.
When I was led up to the treatment room, I was so surprised with how it looked. It was a huge room, again with a big comfy chair, Tv and the treatment bed. The minute I entered into the room, I warned my therapist that I wasn’t a waxer and had the pain threshold of a bean!! She promised me that Lycon wax was 60% less painful that other waxes and it wouldn’t be as bad as I thought!! Hmmmm
I was very impressed with the hygiene levels in the room and the fact that the room was warm. Nobody wants to be stripping down in a cold room.
Ok. So word of warning for the more modest amongst us. I was advised that to get the most effective wax possible, I should go completely bare during the wax. I could choose to be more modest if I really wanted, but the wax wouldn’t be as tidy. Ladies I nearly lost my life. The things I do in the name of research. To be fair, after a few minutes I didn’t even notice my bareness and the therapist (sorry I can’t remember her name) was amazing. She was fantastic at keeping me distracted and with the TV on in the background, I genuinely calmed down. Brazila is really set up for the nervous waxer . They are beyond professional, but at the same time leave you feeling relatively relaxed and make the waxing experience a whole heap better.
As for the wax itself. While it wasn’t completely pain free, it was an awful lot easier than I expected. It was quick and bar one or two tugs, I was able to deal with everything that went on. I can hands down say, that the Lycon wax is a lot less painful than other waxes that I have had. Not only is it a lot less painful, but without giving you TMI, it is the most professional wax I have ever had. I swear it is like the lady took a ruler and spirit measure out.
I was very impressed with how professional they were in Brazilia, and the fact that they were able to deal with this seriously nervous waxer, would absolutely make me go back. If you’re in the market for a trim, Brazilia have salons in both South Williams street and Sandyford. They also do tanning, nails and laser treatment if you’re looking to really treat yourself. The fact that they are in town, makes it very handy for when you’re out and about . You can find out more about Brazilia and prices for all treatments including the Californian wax here.
