six month clear braces at My Dental clinic
I can’t believe I am actually writing this, but in the next few weeks my braces are coming off ! Can you believe it? In such a short space of time, my whole smile has completely changed. In fact I have gone from no smile at all, to a complete Cheshire cat grin.
The few months that I have worn my braces have absolutely flown by. My six month clear braces were applied on November 22nd in My Dental Clinic and are due for removal mid June. In total I will have worn them for a little under 7 months. I had to wear mine a little longer than 6 months due to my bite, but considering how over crowded my bottom teeth were, this to me is nothing short of a miracle. I always knew braces worked, but I was more than a little bit sceptical that my dodgy teeth would be straightened in such a short period.
While I can’t wait to see the finished result, the braces themselves haven’t bothered me all that much. I was expecting to have a few months of torture, but for the most part they were grand. Ok, so they can be a little annoying at times, Food gets stuck all the time! I am like Mr Twit storing bits of old food to find at a later stage! They can also hurt a little after tightening and can look a little on the yellow side just before the brackets are changed, but I would take every little annoyance 10 times over for the results I have achieved.
At this stage my teeth are almost perfect, but there is a tiny gap at the side of my mouth that Dr Natalia wants to close. I am currently wearing several elastics every night to help with this. As far as I can tell, the elastics attached to the braces help the teeth to move even faster. The elastics can hurt slightly, but you get used to them very quickly. However, I swear to god, I have nearly choked a number of times on elastics over the last few weeks. Sometimes when I apply them I don’t have a strong enough grip on the elastic and it ends up snapping back into my mouth. Mr Beautiful Truth breaks his heart laughing every time this happens.
My Six month clear braces have given me one seriously straight smile, but due to my teeth being different shapes and with the movement of some teeth to line up my gum line, I am left with a few gaps between my top and bottom teeth. There is no amount of braces work that will fix this, so instead Dr Natalia is going to apply three caps to my teeth. I already have a cap on one of my front teeth, so I am all on for adding on two extra caps to give me an even more perfect smile.
On top of that, in the next week or so Dr Natalia is going to start doing internal bleaching on one of my bottom teeth. When I was 10 I got hit in the mouth with a golf ball, and one of my bottom teeth was killed off. It is also the reason I have a cap on one of my front teeth! As the nerves in the bottom tooth are dead, the tooth itself looks black. I always hated it and thought I was stuck with it for life, but supposedly the dentist can do internally bleaching on the tooth to make it whiter! I never even knew they could do things like that, but if it works then I am all for it.
Long time readers of the blog will know that there is absolutely no beating around the bush with me. If I don’t like something I will tell you, but ladies there are no words to express how over the moon I am with my teeth. I mean come on, the pictures speak volumes!! All I can say, is if you have ever even for a single nano second thought about getting braces, then go for it. The money will come from somewhere, and My Dental offer payment plans to work around what you can afford. If you are interested the first consolation is free and they can give you a quote, but as a rough guide, top and bottom will cost you in the region of €2200!!

May 12, 2015 at 7:35 pmThat’s one hell of a difference in a few months! You sound so happy, I’m genuinely delighted for you. I have always hated my teeth and I hope to get them sorted later on in the year, so fair play to you x

May 13, 2015 at 5:21 amGreat to see your results. I’ve had mine since August and I’m getting them out next month as well.
I should send some images of before/afters.
My only concern at this stage is whether my teeth will retain their position over the next 10-20 years. You’re supposed to wear the retainer(s) for a year but what happens after that?
Did your dentist mention anything about long term result retention?
