When I asked readers what they would like to see more of on The Beautiful Truth, an overwhelming number of you wanted more budget product reviews. Well luckily enough over the past few months I have been trying and testing out a whole pile of products that will give you flawless looking skin without breaking the bank.
Wet n Wild cover all primer
Don’t you just love when you find a primer that not only works a treat but doesn’t break the bank? Well let me introduce you to the Wet n Wild cover All primer. Costing just €4.99, this primer works an absolute treat at keeping your makeup in place throughout the day. It has a creamy light weight gel consistency, that absorbs into the skin quickly and not only preps your skin for your makeup but leaves it feeling hydrated too. Wet n Wild claim that it will even out your skins complexion, fills in lines and wrinkles and minimises pores and while these are tall orders, it doesn’t do a half bad job at it. While it isn’t a miracle worker, it does give you a lovely smooth base to apply your foundation to. You really can’t go wrong for €4.99. You can pick Wet n Wild up in Dunnes stores and Pennys.
L’Oreal True Match
This is the first of two foundations that I have included but I couldn’t do a post on affordable base products without including this foundation. I honestly have serious love for this the Loreal True match. Have now repurchased this at least 4 or 5 times, which is unheard of for me. With a silky texture, satin finish, medium coverage and fantastic lasting power, it isn’t hard to see why I have used it so much. It is a little more expensive than most budget foundations but in my eyes if it suits your skin, it is worth every cent. You can buy it on any L’Oreal stand for €14.99. There is a full review here.
NYX Matte but not flat
The second foundation included in todays post is one that took me completely by surprise, as I really didn’t have high hopes for it. Yet, whenever I wear the NYX Matte but not flat foundations, I always get compliments on how well my skin looks. This has a little more of a thicker consistency than the True match, but blends easily into the skin. While it is more of a matte finish, it isn’t drying on the skin and it 100% doesn’t look flat like some matte foundations can. I should note though, whenever I wear this foundation, I also wear the Seventeen skin wow 3 way highlighter all over my skin underneath to give more of a glow. I found that the foundation itself was long wearing , with very little wear down as the day progressed. When it comes to picking a shade, I have found it difficult to get a shade match that is close to my natural skin colour. I am currently wearing the nude shade, but it is a little dark on me and needs to be mixed with my Body shop lightening drops, so it is advisable to swatch in the shop before buying. You can pick this up for the bargain price of €8.50
Seventeen Skin Wow 3 way highlighter
Oh how I love this highlighter. As the name suggests there are 3 different ways to wear it. Firstly as I mentioned above you can wear it under your makeup. You can wear it all over your face or place it strategically. Be careful though, as a little goes a long way, so less is more here. Secondly you can mix it in with your more matte foundations to give them a little bit of a glow. Or finally you can wear it over your foundation and highlight the high points of your face with it. Regardless of the price, this is a little gem of a product and at only €8.49 you’d be mad not to give it a go. You can read a full review here.
Paese Bamboo setting powder
I’ve actually been using this powder for a good while now and I can’t believe I haven’t given it it’s own review!!! As the name suggests this is a setting powder. I use this to set my under eye concealer and to dust over my face to set my foundation. It is a translucent powder so the colour won’t effect your foundation. I personally haven’t tested it for flash back, but when it comes to these powders less is more and you really just need to dust it over your face. If you’re looking for a loose setting powder, you really can’t go wrong with this. You can buy it on cloud 10 beauty for €11.95 and if you add in the code BEAUT10 you will get another 10% off ( not an affiliate link just a little discount )
Physicians Formula 2 in 1 bronzer and highlighter
If you want a bronzed glow, then this 2 in 1 bronzer and highlighter is your only man! I adore this. While technically I wouldn’t use the word highlighter to describe it, I would instead say it is a bronzer that gives good glow. Using my Buff and Blend bb01 powder brush, I swirl the brush over the whole pan to get a mix of bronzer and highlighter. Then I lightly swish the brush over the areas I want to bronze. This gives the skin a beautifully natural glowing bronzed look. Honestly I have used very little else to bronze my face for the past month or so. I really love this. It is on the saucy side at €19.90 but you can get it cheaper on iherb.com, but keep your order under €27 to avoid customs!!!
Seventeen skin wow concealer
This has been touted by a number of beauty websites as a dupe for the YSL Touche Eclat, which drives me nuts becaus apart from the packaging being similar this is absolultey nothing like the Touche éclat. You can read John it’s only makeup review here and see why. Instead what it is is a pretty good concealer and under eye highlighter. It is great for cancelling out my dark circles and brightening the under eye area. It is a yellow toned concealer which I personally love for the under eye area and it’s thin texture makes it easy to blend out under the eye without caking and settling in fine lines. It comes in two shades fair and medium and I find the fair shade works great for me. This is another bargain at €6.99 and you can pick it up in Boots.
NYX Mirco brow pencil
If you have brows, then you need this in your life. This brow pencil is just everything you could want from a pencil and more. It is comes in a thin, sleek pencil, with a brush on one end and product on the other. The brush is excellent for brushing through your brows, as it is nice a stiff and really gives bushy brows a good grooming. The pencil end is quite thin, which I find excellent for sculpting out my brows. I wear the shade ash brown and find it very very similar to the ABH brow wiz shade soft brown. You can read a full review here and pick up a pencil on Boots for €10
