It seems there are quite a few Colourpop fans out there because when I posted pictures of the products I had purchased on social media, I was inundated with messages asking more about how I got them, what colours I got, how they wear and if they are worth the hype. Well today ladies I am here to answer all your questions.
First off I need to point out that I did not get these products delivered to Ireland. Instead I had a family member over in the States who accepted a delivery for me. However, in saying that, there are ways and means around getting them here. Most notably an American service that is similar to Parcel motel. GoSend seems to be the most popular one amongst Irish bloggers. While I personally have not used this service, Aisling from Total Makeup Addict, swears by it and when I asked if she has had to pay customs on delivery, she said she hadn’t to date. You can also check out a youtube video from DramaticMac detailing her experience using GoSend here.
Now that you know how to get Colourpop here, is it worth buying and what should you buy?
Ladies, hand on heart these products have quite literally blown me away. I am always sceptical when I see American bloggers and you tubers all rave about the same products, but these products are really something special and well worth going out of your way to get, especially when you see the price point.
First up I bought four of their famous Ultra Matte Lips. These liquid lipsticks have staying power like nothing I have ever tried before. While I will go into more detail on how each colour wears below, for the most part, I could get a good 6 to 8 hours wear before having to top up. I ate, drank and even brushed my teeth and there was minimal wear as the day progressed.
Not only do they wear well, but I found them to be very comfortable on the lips. Normally when you hear the word Matte, never mind Ultra Matte, you have visions of your lips feeling something like a shrivelled up prune. This is not the case at all with the Ultra Matte lip. To be honest, I hardly felt like I was wearing anything. I do feel however, that a lipliner is a must with this, so as to avoid any bleeding into fine lines around the edges of the mouth on application. Keep in mind when looking at the swatches below that for whatever reason Trap and Bianca have swatched a little brown, so I have included pictures of these on my lips further down in the post.
The texture of each lipstick did differ from colour to colour. I found some, such as Beeper and Lumiere 2 to be far my fluid than either Trap of Bianca. In fact, be careful when opening and using Beeper as this stuff is like water. I wasn’t expecting it to be so fluid and spilt it all over my mothers good duvet cover. To say she nearly killed me would be an understatement. It was a throw back to my teenage self, except this time I am standing there 8 months pregnant begging for forgiveness and promising to replace the Sanderson Duvet set!!!
First colour up is Trap. This is a greyish mauve colour. It has a little more of a thicker texture then the others, so it is a little harder to spread on the lips, but nothing that is noticeable. It is incredibly long wearing and I got a good 6 hours wear, including eating, drinking and even brushing my teeth, before I had to reapply. It wears off from the centre of the lips out, so you do need to watch when it is wearing so that you can reapply as it can look a little funny otherwise. There is no issues with applying over the old colour either. It is easy to wear and doesn’t feel drying on the lips either.
Next up is the lovely Bianca. This is probably my favourite out of the 4 Ultra Mattes that I bought, as I found that colourwise, it was the easiest to wear. Where Trap was a grey mauve, Bianca is more of a soft pink mauve. I also found, that due to the fact the colour was a little closer to a natural colour, when it wore down, the wear wasn’t as noticeable. Just like with Trap, it was comfortable on the lips and long wearing . When it came to texture, this was probably the thickest to apply. This thickness didn’t transfer to your lips, but it just made it not as easy to apply.
Lumiere 2 is a collaboration between colour pop and Kathleen lights. Again this is another mauve shade, but I found that this one dried down to be a little darker and more full on than either Trap or Bianca. While I do like this colour, I prefer to wear it heading out, rather than a day to day lipstick. It is also a little more liquidy than Trap or Bianca so it goes on much easier. This has been touted as being a “dupe” for the Kylie lip kit in Posie K. As I haven’t tried the Kylie lip kit, I can’t attest to this claim but you can check our swatches here and you can see they do look pretty close. In fact rumour has it that colour pop lipsticks are the same thing as the Kylie lip kits, but just repackaged!!!
The last Ultra Matte Lip that I bought is Beeper. This was my least favourite and if I had of seen it in real life before buying, I personally wouldn’t have bought it as the colour is a little too brown for me. While it wore the same as the other colours, it was incredibly fluid, almost to the point it was nearly like water. If you are getting this one, be careful when using it, as this has spilled on me on more than one occasion. Again this is said to be a dupe for the Kylie colour in Dolce K, but from looking online, I don’t think they are that similar in colour. Again you can have a look at swatches here.
I also bought 2 of the Lippie stix and I am absolutely raging that I didn’t buy more of these. The texture and comfort of these are incredible!!! They are so creamy on the lips and wear really well. I got about 3 to 4 hours wear without having to top up and when they did wear down they left a lovely stain on the lips.
I bought two shades, as I found it hard to pick between the colours online. So many pictures are filtered that it is impossible to see the true colours. Not only that, it is hard to actually photograph the true colour of a lip product!! The shades I bought wear Lumiere and Frida.
Lumiere is quite possibly the perfect mauve shade. It is very very similar to the Nars Audacious lipstick in the shade Anna, but only in shade wise, as I did find that the lipsticks themselves wore differently. You can check out the similarities here. It is a beautiful dusty pink mauve, making it perfect for everyday wear, or more of a subtle night time look.
Frida is a colour I didn’t love. Not because there is anything wrong with it, but it just didn’t suit me.It is said to be a warm mid tone nude pink, but I found it to be a little too peachy on my skin. It still wore really well, but it just wasn’t for me colour wise.
The final item that I bought was one of the famed highlighters in the shade wisp. This is a golden shade highlighter that looks similar in tones to my beloved champagne pop. I haven’t worn this yet so I can’t comment on how it wears, but I will keep you updated on this one.
Overall I can’t sing high enough praises for these lip products. The Ultra Matte lips are comfortable, long wearing and incredibly pigmented. While the Lippie six are creamy, long wearing and just gorgeous to wear. The Ultra Matte lips cost $6, while the Lippie Stix cost $5. I am 100% planning on buying a few more of these once I have a few bob to spare, as I have feeling there will be a hefty order put in. Honestly ladies, If you have a chance to order these go for it, they 100% get my seal of approval. You can check out the Colourpop website here.
