Over the last few years, Estee Lauder have gone from a brand that I hardly glanced at, to one I now actively lust over. Recently, the people over at Estée Lauder have upped their game considerably and keep coming out with amazing product after amazing product, especially in the foundation area. For the past month I have been wearing the Perfectionist foundation, and the beauty of this foundation really catches my breathe every time I wear it.
Perfectionist is every thing I could want in a foundation and more. It is easy to apply, looks like velvet on the skin, lasts all day and makes your face look luminous. It’s also an anti ageing foundation due to the perfectionist serum which has been added to the foundation.
Shade Range: There are 22 shades in this range of foundation. It took me a while to find the correct shade to suit my skin tone, but because there was such a wide range of shades, I finally found my perfect colour. The Estée Lauder counters are fantastic for giving a decent size sample so that you can go off and find what shade suits you best. I originally tried desert beige, as that was the colour that suited me best, but it ended up being far too light. Fresco was a little on the dark side, so I ended up picking Dawn. I tried a sample in all colours before I finally bought a full size.
Packaging: Perfectionist comes in a class bottle, with a plastic navy lid. I love the little gold trim, as it adds a real feel of luxury to the packaging. The bottle comes with pump, and for once, a pump gives out just the right amount of product. There is 30 mls of product in the bottle.
Texture: Perfectionist has a beautiful silky texture to it and as a result it is so easy to blend out onto the skin.
Application: Due to the silky finish of this foundation, it applies so easily to the skin. I use about 4 small pumps to cover my face and it blends in with no bother. There is a special foundation brush to go with this foundation, but to be honest, I just didn’t have the money to fork over another €46 for a brush. In my opinion that is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a brush that just works with this foundation. I use my beloved Sigma F80 brush and it applies the foundation just as well as I presume the Estée Lauder one does.
Finish: The finish to this foundation, is something very special. While perfections has a satin finish, it gives your skin the most gorgeous luminous look, without looking greasy on the skin. It really is like nothing I have ever tried before when it comes to the finish on the skin. It isn’t an unnatural looking glow, but rather a natural glow from within look. My skin looks so much brighter when I wear this foundation.
Due to the inclusion of the Perfectionist anti ageing serum in this foundation, it helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while wearing the foundation. I normally don’t buy into this type of thing, but it honestly gives your skin such an even, relatively unlined look. Granted I don’t have a lot of lines, but the ones I do, are dimished. Estée Lauder have also included a blend of ingredients that help to blur out any imperfections. Ladies for me this is like a miracle in a bottle.
Coverage: Perfectionist is said to be a light to medium coverage foundation, but I feel it is definitely on the medium side, and can be built to a medium to relatively full coverage. I find it covers any of my imprecations, but I do still need a decent concealer with it, for my dark circles. If you are a fan of a more decent coverage, you won’t be disappointed with this one.
Skin Type: This is a real all-round skin type foundation. I have combination skin, and it lasts on my skin all day long, with little or no break down. For the days that my skin is dry, it doesn’t cling to the dry areas. While I can’t comment for any oily skinned ladies, Makeup Monster recently reviewed Perfectionist and said it was a dream on her skin. While it does have anti ageing properties to the foundation, it doesn’t contain any oil, meaning it isn’t going to slide off your face if you have oily skin.
Lasting power: For a foundation that gives the skin a beautiful glow, this is as good as it gets with lasting power. I can apply this at 7:30am and it will still be near to perfect come mid afternoon. It won’t take you from morning to night, but apart from Double Wear, there are little or no foundations that will. Estée Lauder say you don’t need a primer with this, but I find it wears much better on the skin when a primer is applied.
Price: I actually nearly fell over when I heard the price of the Percetionist foundation. At €46 a bottle, it really is tipping the very high end prices for a foundation. This is seriously a lot of money to pay out for a foundation, but in fairness, you’re not only getting a foundation, you are getting an anti ageing serum too, as it is infused into the foundation. Like always, look out for weekends where department stores have money off, and also The Loop at Dublin and Cork airports, are always considerably cheaper, if you know of someone travelling through the airport. Considering this is such a saucy price, I would highly suggest you get at least one sample before purchasing. I know I shouldn’t say this, but I went from Estée Laduer counter to Estée Lauder counter getting a few different samples in the same colour, so that I could get a real run at trying it out before buying.
Over all this really is a foundation worth looking into. I can honestly say it is well up there with my all time favourites and I highly recommend it. When I wear Perfectionist my skin looks much brighter, has a beautiful finish and a more even appearance. The only thing that puts me off is the price, but like always , the things worth buying are a little bit more money. Do not be put off by the youth infusing name to this foundation, as it really is a foundation that anyone can wear.
You can buy Perfectionsit from any Estée Laduer counter.
