In our family, when it comes to buying gifts , the men in our lives are the hardest to by for. The reason for this being, they have either bought the things they want, or they keep telling us to not waste our money because they don’t need anything!!! To help you narrow down your search for gifts for your men, I have put together a small gift guide.
It is worth noting that the majority of these gifts can be bought for women too and the only reason I didn’t include gadgets like these in my other gift guides, is because this is a beauty blog, I felt it was appropriate to stick to beauty idea for gifts for women. Women totally love gadgets for gifts too!!
FitBit Blaze
For anyone into fitness or indeed trying to up their fitness from couch to light exercise, you can’t go wrong with the Fitbit. I have the Fitbit Blaze and love it. It tracks your steps, heart rate, calories and it can even be programmed to track different types of exercise. Like I mentioned in my other gift guide, order from Argos.co.uk and get it delivered to your parcel motel as it is a lot cheaper this way!! You can pick this up on Argos.co.uk for €190 compared with €229 on the Irish site!
Record player
Over the last few years, there has been a massive vinyl revival. I am not going to pretend that I know a lot about record players because to be honest, I really don’t but there are a few things to keep in mind when buying. Firstly budget. You can get record players for €30 or €40 on Amazon if you’re looking for something cheap and cheerful to just do the job. Or you can spend thousands if you want something mega special. Next thing to look out for is speakers. Most of the budget ones that look nice in the suitcases have built in speakers and the sound quality would only be ok. If you’re on a tight budget, like most of us, buy a player that you can add speakers to at a later date. This way you can get something that does the job, but it can be upgraded when you or the person you’re buying for has a bit more cash. Finally can you play records with the lid down? Who knew this was a thing, but supposedly it is the done thing. However, I will note, unless you’re spending a few hundred. You will struggle to find a player that does this. I find Amazon is brilliant for researching things like this, as the reviews really help. I can’t even recommend a brand here but from my research, if you want a brand like sony etc you will pay big money!!
Tablets
Just like with the record players, my knowledge of tablets is some what limited. iPads are great, but lets call a spade a spade, they cost a fortune! We bought my dad a Samsung tablet a while back and he finds it great. What I like about the Samsung tablet is, as it is on the android platform and as a result, you can download different apps that Apple don’t allow. The big app for me is showbox. This is an app where you can watch the latest movies and tv shows. You can check out the Samsung tablets here.
Aftershave
I know this is a bit of a cop out, but if you’re really stuck, you can’t go wrong with a bit of aftershave. Mr Beautiful Truth was recently sent Dolce and Gabbana Light blue Winter and it is so yum!!! You can also by a sampler set of Ralph Lauren Polo in Debenhams for €58 here.
Tickets
This is yet another safe bet but it is always one that goes down well and something that you can benefit from yourself. Last year I got my husband tickets to The Stunning and he absolutely loved it. Maybe you could buy comedy, sports, music or even tickets to some random exhibition they might like. The list is endless.
Box products charger
This portable charger from box products, is one of the best portable chargers I have tried. It genuinely charges your phone fully a few times before dying and charges up itself fully in a few hours. Box products also do a brilliant plug board the has 4 usb ports as well as the regular plug sockets. I have found this invaluable!! You can buy the charger from Harvey Norman for €30 and the plug board from the Box website for £35 here.
Golf Buddy
I am going to keep this one short and sweet because I haven’t a breeze about these things. All I know is that my dad adores his and it tells you how far you need to hit your ball on the Golf course!!! You can find out more about them here.
Kindle
There are people who will tell you that you can’t beat a real book in your hands and to be honest you can’t! However, kindles are brilliant for reading in bed, on the go or travelling with. They are light weight and you can get books no matter what time of the day or night it is. I have my kindle for years and year now and it is still going strong. You can buy them on Amazon or in most major electronic retailers.
Gift voucher
This is yet another gift with endless possibilities. Of course you can buy a one for all voucher, but there isn’t a lot of thought in that, so maybe a driving experience in Mondello. Or a flying Lesson in Weston airport or even a voucher for a posh shave somewhere!! If you fancy benefitting from the gift yourself, aerlingus do vouchers, as do most hotels!!
Apple TV
If the person you’re buying from doesn’t have a smart tv, an Apple Tv is a great addition. Basically you can stream from your laptop or smart phone, watch netflix and youtube and a whole lot more. You can buy it from Apple or in iConnect stores for €179
Nintendo nes mini
It seems that the retro revival is massive this year. The old school games consoles are making a come back in mini form. Nintendo and Sega both released their own offerings with prices starting at €69.99 !! They are hard to get but if they’re a gamer, these would make fantastic gifts.
Socks and Jocks
I couldn’t do a gift guide for men and not include socks and jocks!!! Before my Nanny Kavanagh died, every single Christmas she bought my dad socks , jocks and slippers.Without fail that was his Christmas gift for good 20+ years!! If you fancy being really fancy you can pick up some expensive Dolce and Gabbana trunks in Brown Thomas here.
