Let’s face it, flowers and chocolates are great, but when it comes to some of our mothers, they just deserve that little bit of extra thought when it comes to a Mothers day gift.
My own mother is probably one of the hardest women in the country to shop for, as she is the woman that has everything and if there is something she wants, she buys it for herself!!! Thankfully my mother is also a great woman for dropping hints.

Afternoon Tea
One of the best gifts you can give your mother, is your time. Nothing makes an Irish mammy happier then spending some quality time with her little girl. One of my favourite things to do with my mam and sister is to head out for afternoon tea. It is such a special treat and a fantastic way to spend a girlie afternoon. Also, incase you didn’t know, the calories don’t count when you’re treating someone else to a day out. God, I can almost taste the clotted cream and hot scones.
When it comes to afternoon tea, prices and standards can vary from place to place, but The Restaurant at Brown Thomas does an afternoon tea inspired by Two Star Michelin Restaurateur, Patrick Guilbaud for €24.95 per person. Spa Treatments
What woman doesn’t like a bit of pampering. I personally love nothing more then spending a day getting pampered in the spa. One of my favourite in Dublin, is the Dawson Spa. My god this place knows how to help even the most stressed to relax. It really is a little piece of heaven in the centre of the city. The last time I went there, I had the most fabulous treatment called the Macroom melt ( this is very similar to the Spring renewal treatment), which consisted of a foot scrub /massage and full body scrub followed by the most amazing full body massage. If you’re looking for something a little further afield then Galgorm resort in Co. Antrim have a fantastic range of offers running at the moment. With both day and overnight packages available, your mother is bound to be delighted with what the folks up north have to offer. Seriously, this place looks unreal. Skin care
Skin care is a very personal thing to each person. However, there are some stand out products that I think would suit many Mammies out there
The Cream Face from The Pink Cow brand
I am literally obsessed with this moisturiser. This cream has completely changed my skin. It has made it brighter, smoother and younger looking. I can’t say enough good good things about how wonderful this cream is. As this is said to be anti ageing, it would make the perfect gift for mothers day. Once your mammy doesn’t take offence that is. Payot Perfect Hydration Trio
The Payot perfect hydration trio, is designed to pamper and enhance the completion. It is said to give an intense hydration and freshness to your skin. Makeup brushes
I find it very hard to pick out makeup for someone else. How a product works all depends on your skin type and also personal preference. However, a true beauty lover can never have enough brushes. While it is all well and good to think outside the box when it comes to presents for mothers day, sometimes you just can’t go wrong with the old reliables.
UGG Slippers
Yes I know Uggs are probably one of the ugliest pieces of footwear ever created, but put your judging aside and ask yourself, “wouldn’t it be lovely to encase my feet in a little but of heaven when I come in from work every evening?”
I bought myself a pair of Ugg slippers about 18 months ago and I swear to god they never leave my feet. Yes I know that doing this makes me seem like a serious granny, but do you know what? I ok with that, because when I wear these, it feels like little tiny angels caressing my feet. They are so unbelievably comfy and would delight even the fussiest mammy . Yes they are expensive with prices starting at €85, but believe me, they are so worth it. Your mammy will love your forever with these on her feet.
Molton Brown Honeysuckle and White Tea
I’m a little bit in love with the smell of the Molton Brown Honeysuckle and White Tea range at the moment. I’m not great at describing smells, but I’ve been told that the top note is mandarin and there is a middle note of honey suckle with an undertone of white tea leaf. All I know is it in unbelievably yum!!
The range consists of a 40ml hand cream, 300ml body lotion which is so silky smooth, a 300ml Shower and bath gel, which seriously cheers me up in the mornings, and a 50ml Eau de toilet.
