Every so often a foundation comes along and takes you by surprise and considering this offering from NYX costs €8.50, I was really surprised by the quality, longevity and over all appearance of the foundation. I don’t know what has happened to me lately, but I am using more and more budget products!!!!
Shade Range: There are 10 shades available in the Stay Matte but not Flat foundation. I have the shade nude, but personally it is a little too dark for my NC 25 skin tone and I have to mix it with my Body Shop lightening drops to get it to match my skin tone a little better. The nude shade does have slight yellow undertones, which I personally love!!! With NYX stands opening up in Boots across the country, it should be easier to find a shade to match, rather than trying to judge from online swatches!
Packaging: The packaging is very basic, as the foundation comes in a 35ml plastic tube. It can get a little dirty, as you might be able to see from some of the pictures. The foundation comes out from a squeezy part of the tube. You only need a little bit of this, so take it handy when squeezing, as it does tend to come out a little fast.
Texture: This is a little thicker than most foundations that I am use to using. In fact, it has somewhat of a tacky texture to it. It is unusual, however, it glides on to the skin like a dream, and spreads over the skin so easily. You don’t actually need a lot of product either to get good coverage.
Skin Type: This is always the hardest part for me to write about, as I have normal skin. However, I think this as it is oil free and water based it would suit both those who are slightly oily and those who are slightly dry. I do think if you’re oily however, you will need to set it with a powder, as I need to set my T zone to keep it in place throughout the day. Even though it has the word matte in the name, it isn’t a full on matte and doesn’t suck the moisture out of your skin!!
Finish: This has a really lovely finish. It isn’t matte and it certainly isn’t flat, but instead it sits somewhere between a matte and a satin finish. I sometimes like to mix in a bit of my Seventeen wow highlighter to give it more of a dewy look. It also gives the skin a beautifully flawless finish. Whenever I wear this, I get quite a number of compliments on how well my skin looks!
Coverage: This is a medium coverage foundation. It covers up and issues you might have with your skin, but at the same time it doesn’t look heavy or cakey. You can build this up to be a full medium coverage, but I find that the finish is so much nicer with a little more of a lighter hand during application. I should actually mention that I use my Buff and Blend BB03 brush to apply this and I really buff it into the skin to give the best coverage without the heavy look or feel. As you can see, I have quite a bit of pigmentation due to pregnancy and the foundation does a good job of covering it up without looking overly heavy.
Lasting Power: I found that this wore really well throughout the day. I got a good 6 hours wear before having to top up and it was only around my t zone that I needed to add a little extra product. I also found to make it last better throughout the day, I did need to set it with a powder.
Price: At €8.50 this is a seriously well priced foundation. In fact as the quality is so good, you wouldn’t mind paying even a little more for this!!!
I honestly really love this foundation. It is a fantastic day time foundation, that wears well, looks well and doesn’t break the bank! It really leaves the skin looking gorgeous and it is well worth picking up if you find yourself near one of the new NYX stands.
