If you follow The Beautiful Truth on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you may have noticed I’ve gotten a ixet of braces on my nashers. I have finally taken the plunge to get my teeth sorted just in time for my walk up the aisle in July. For the last few years I’ve toyed around with the idea of getting braces, as I didn’t want to be paranoid about how my teeth looked in my wedding photos. It is a rare occasion that you will catch me smiling in a picture and the last thing I wanted was to have a pout in my wedding pictures. The Bridal duck face is not a look I want to be rocking.
For as long as I can remember I have had an issue with my teeth. At the age of 10 I got hit in the mouth with a golf ball, when my friend tried to hit a ball through a set of railings and I had the genius idea of standing over the other side to see if it would come through. With one of my front teeth knocked out and the nerves in one of my bottom teeth killed, my long affair with dentists began and as a result I put off getting braces.
Like with most adults, the real problem with over crowding hit fever pitch with the appearance of my wisdom teeth. I’ve always had a problem with over crowding on my bottom teeth, but my wisdom teeth brought it to a whole new level. As conscious as I am about my teeth, the cost of braces and the thoughts of having a mouth full of metal for a few years was so off putting, that no matter how much I researched it, I couldnt bring myself to take the plunge. That was until Six Month clear braces came into my life.
Six Month clear braces are clear, non intrusive braces that typically take 6 months to get your perfect smile. As I am on countdown to my wedding day, time is not on my side, so Six Month clear braces are the perfect option for me. What makes Six Month clear braces different from traditional braces and allows them to be on for a much shorter period of time, yet at the same time doing the same job, is the fact that the Six Month clear braces bracket is different. With traditional braces the bracket moves the crown on the tooth over the first section of time and then the root for the remainder of the time. The Six Month clear braces brackets are a difference shape which allows them to move the crown and the root of the tooth at the same time, but with minimal discomfort. Not only that, unlike traditional braces, Six Month clear braces are extremely discreet. My first few days of wearing them, I felt like I had neon flash lights on each tooth, but now 3 weeks later, I genuinely hardly notice them and when I point them out to people, they all say they hadn’t noticed them until I brought their attention to it.
As an adult wearing braces, my nerves were on a whole new level getting the braces applied. My main concern being the pain. Even though I have gone through some serious pain in my life, when it comes to my teeth I am a complete wuss!! The application of the braces was honestly completely pain free, to the point that I found myself nodding off. However, the following 5 days were like nothing I had ever felt. If there was a spike in pain killer sales over those few days, it was completely down to me. I popped them like there was no tomorrow. As a teacher, I talk all day and for the first 3 days teaching after getting the braces applied, I went through a serious amount of wax to stop my gums getting cut. I was a miserable mess. However, after 5 days, the pain simply disappeared. I honestly don’t even feel they are there anymore. No pain in the teeth and no cut gums. Thank the sweet lord, because I don’t think I could have faced much more. The only thing that bothers me about wearing braces is food. It takes me ages to eat anything. I have to take care with what I can eat, and cut everything up into tiny pieces. I have never brushed my teeth as much in my life, as I have over the last few weeks, as food gets stuck everywhere and I have to brush my teeth after I eat. I feel like Mr Twit! Yet this is a very small price to pay to get straight teeth and a perfect smile. One thing to note about Six Month clear braces they will only correct your smile and rather than your bite. So it is worth booking in for a free consultation to check that you’re a suitable candidate.
One of the main things that previously put me off getting braces was the price. Some of the prices I was quoted would make your eyes water. I went to a number of dentist and even went about braces you can put in and out again, and the cheapest quote I got was €3500 and that was on a 2 week offer which would rise once the offer was over. A full set of Six Month clear braces will set you back €2400 for both your top and bottom teeth. This price doesn’t include retainers, but retainers will cost in and around the €300 mark for top and bottom. You will also receive 20% of this total cost back on your medical expenses at the end of the tax year. This is by far and away the cheapest price I have found for braces in the Dublin area.
While it is early days yet, I am over the moon with having a mouth full of braces. The sad thing is, because I have hated my teeth for so long I actually don’t know how to smile for pictures, but I may get practicing as I can’t wait to grin like a Cheshire cat as I walk down the aisle to be greeted by Mr Beautiful Truth .
