Ok, yes that is a bit of a sensational headline, but last weekend while at a blogging event in Galway, something happened that never ever happens. I, Sinead, smiled in pictures! Yes, I was beaming like a big eejit every single time I stepped into a picture. This is unheard of for me, but I couldn’t help but smile. It is a very rare occasion that I smile in pictures, so while this might seem like a small thing to most of you, for me this is absolute huge! It is in fact life changing!
I have had my Six Month clear braces on nearly 12 weeks now and to say there is a difference, would be an understatement. I am genuinely blown away by the change in my teeth in such a short period of time.
When I was told that I would have straight teeth in time for my wedding at the start of July, I was slightly sceptical. How could my teeth possibly be straightened in such a short time? I knew that Six Month clear braces had worked for other people, but I wasn’t convinced they would work for me, as the bottom of my teeth were quite overcrowded and I also had a bit of an overbite. Oh how I was delightfully wrong. Ladies, I’m actually quite shocked and emotional at how quickly they have moved. In less than three months, my teeth are considerably straighter!
Already my top teeth are straight and now the dentist is working on getting my gum line lined up. The two teeth on the top, where the gum line is lower then the others, are going to be moved up so that the gum is in liner with the bigger tooth. These teeth will then be capped, so that all my teeth are all the same size and in a straight line. The movement of these teeth will all happen over the next few weeks and will be ready with plenty of time for the wedding. I have been told that my top brace may actually be off in less than the six months.
The change in my overbite in such a short time is quite remarkable. The gap still hasn’t closed, but now that I am wearing elastics on some of my teeth, this will significantly reduce the gap. The dentist expects that I won’t have a gap at all when my treatment is finished , as my bottom teeth will be moved out by the bottom brace and the top teeth will be push back a little bit more by the top brace. When this happens the gap between my teeth will disappear and give me a smashing smile.
I was always so paranoid about having prominent teeth and for years and years as a kid and a teenager, I was called Goofy. I remember crying over my teeth as a teenager, and being embarrassed when talking to people, incase they saw the state of my teeth. I really don’t have anything to be embarrassed about anymore. The pictures speak for themselves.
My bottom teeth were where the real problems lay. When I went for my first consultation back in late October, the dentist wondered if we would actually be able to get the bottom row straight in time for the wedding. Three months later, there is no question about whether they will be ready or not. They will absolutely be ready in time. While my bottom row are still not completely straight yet, with a little over 4 months to go to the wedding, there is more than enough time to get them looking perfect.
I am currently attending the dentist every 4 weeks. At each visit, she changes out the wire and the elastic bits around each bracket. I find that both the wire and the elastic around the brackets do stain and around the 3rd week of wear they begin to look a little bit yellow, but once the wire and elastic are changed, they look pearly white again.
The dentist also tightens them during each visit. During last weeks visit I had the brackets attached to my two bottom fangs and I am now wearing elastics to help with the movement. I am not going to lie, I am not overjoyed with having to wear the elastics . They are a complete pain in the backside as you constantly have to take them on and off when eating and they can hurt a little, but at the end of the day, it is a very small price to pay for a perfect smile.I have genuinely shed tears over these braces. I feel like they have really changed my life. They have given me confidence in my appearance. I am not self conscience when I am talking to people and even though I am wearing braces, I am actually quite proud of them and I now smile at every opportunity I can .
I promised to tell you guys the absolute truth about My Dental and my Six Month clear braces, but ladies the truth is I bloody love them. I mean just look at the difference!! I absolutely can’t recommend them enough. Getting these braces, is hands down one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me . Rather a large statement, but it is so true.
As I mentioned in my last post, the cost of Six Month clear braces at My Dental, is considerably cheaper than anywhere else I researched. The cost of the braces begins at €1600, with it averaging out around the €2000 mark for both top and bottom. This price doesn’t include the cost of your retainer, but to get a retainer on both the top and bottom is roughly €300. February 12, 2015 at 7:04 pmI’m so happy for you because I know exactly how you feel, I wish I had fixed mine before the wedding, not one photo of me smiling. Awful. I have a plan in place with my dentist (crowns & bleaching), just have to save now, but I’m excited and hopefully by the end of summer mine will be sorted. You have a beautiful smile x

February 12, 2015 at 10:10 pmFantastic progress! It’s great to see them getting straighter each week. I regret not getting a fixed retainer after mine, as they have moved a little, but definitely much better than they were.
