When it comes to liquid lipsticks it seems there isn’t a brand out there that hasn’t tried it’s hand at creating the perfect product. From high end to budget brands, they all have their own range of liquid lipsticks, with varying levels of success. However, when it comes to liquid lipsticks, in my eyes the budget brands are winning hands down when it comes to quality, colour range, and everything else in between.
The Sleek Matte Me lip creams are top of my list when it comes to liquid lipsticks. If you’re in the market for a lip product that glides onto the lips, dries matte and lasts for hours, then look no further.
The Sleek Matte Me lip creams are available in 12 different shades. With everything from nudes to reds and everything in between covered. I have been wearing two colours over the past few months, Birthday suit and Shabby Chic and I am finding it very hard to pick between them as to what one is my favourite!!
First up and the one I have been wearing the longest is Birthday Suit. Birthday suit is a very wearable brownish nude colour with pink undertones. This is the most popular shade from the range and it isn’t hard to see why. While it swatches more as a dark nude, it is a nude that can be worn easily thoughout the day or at night. It looks natural on my skin tone, but if you’re someone that is paler is might show up a little darker. I like to wear this with my Mac Whirl lipliner, as it gives somewhat of the 90’s Pamela Anderson grunge lip look.
The applicator on Birthday Suit is different than that on Shabby Chic. I am not 100% sure if they have changed all the applicators, but the one I have on my Birthday suit isn’t great. The shape makes it a little straight with no indentation in it to make it easier to apply to the lips. This is not the case with the shabby Chic applicator.
I found Birthday suit to be comfortable on the lips and very long wearing. I got at least 4 hours wear without having to top up and when it did wear it away it wore from the inside out, so you do need to keep an eye on it for top ups. I know some readers have mentioned in comments on The Beautiful Truth Facebook page, that they found this to be a little drying on the lips, but personally I didn’t have an issue with this.
Shabby Chic is one of the newer colours to be added to the Matte Me Range. When I first saw this in Boots Liffey Valley, I swear to god I let out a little sigh of love! No lie, the girl standing beside me at the Sleek stand gave me serious stink eye!!
Shabby Chic is a muted mauvy pink colour. I am all about mauve colours lately, so to find this shade was honestly music to my heart.
Again I found this very easy to wear, but as the colour is a little darker, in my opinion a lip liner is a must. I have mixed and matched the colours I used, but Mac soar or edge to edge are my favourites to wear with this. Wear time is similar to Birthday suit, but as this is a little darker, the wear down is a little more obvious.
I honestly can’t recommend these liquid lip creams enough. At only €7 each you really can’t go wrong. They are long wearing, unbelievably pigmented and comfortable on the lips. You really can’t ask for more. You can pick them up at any Sleek stand or on the Boots Website here.
