A few months ago, the StylPro brush cleaner hit the beauty world and caused an absolutely massive amount of interest and a rush from beauty lovers to buy the latest gadget. The StylPro was hailed as a game changer for makeup lovers, as it was going to take the hassle out of cleaning your makeup brushes. Not only would it clean them in seconds, but it promised to dry them too. It sounded too good to be true and with all the positive reviews surrounding it, I was more than a little sceptical. When my very own Style Pro landed in my post box from Meaghers pharmacy, I was more than ready to put it to the test and find out if it really lived up to the hype.
When you buy your Stylpro it comes with a glass bowl with a silicone seal and splash guard. 8 silicone covers in varying size to fit your different brushes into and the actual stylpro device with a spinal on the top to fit your selected cover onto. It is all very easy to set up and easy to use.
To clean your brush, all you have to do is pick the right cover to fit the handle of your brush. Add a half a cap to a cap full of brush cleaner to some water in the bowl. Once you’ve the brush secure in the cover, you dip your brush up and down in the water for a few seconds, before then turning the stylpro on and spinning the brush in the water for 10 to 20 seconds. You then take the brush out of the water, but keep it inside the bowl and allow it to spin the brush for a further 10 seconds to dry. Easy.
So does it actually work? There is no doubt that the stylpro will get you out of a rut. We have all been here, when we haven’t had a chance to give our brushes a clean and yet don’t have the time to wash them and let them dry. That is where the stylpro really shines. It will 100% have your brushes clean and dry in a few seconds. I do however use the word clean lightly. It will absolutely get brushes that use powder products clean. In fact it is fantastic for eyeshadow brushes, as it will have them both clean and dry in less than 20 seconds. However, when it comes to brushes that use liquid products, it really doesn’t give them the deep clean that these brushes require. It will get them clean enough that you can use them once or twice, but you still need to give them a deep clean at the sink to make sure that all the product, dirt and bacteria is gone.
Secondly, I have some doubts about how hygienic this is. At the end of the day, even though it is cleaning each brush, you are continually putting brushes into already dirty water. For me this is fine for personal use, but there is no way this could be used at a professional level, as it surely can’t be killing off the bacteria.
Finally, I would wonder how good this actually is for your brushes. Each time you use it, it does leave the bristles of your brushes a little splayed and you need to reshape them after drying. I just wonder how long this takes off the life of your brushes.
Yet, even with so many negatives, I do really like the stylpro. I find that it gets be over a hump when I just don’t have time to give my brushes a deep clean. Yes you still need to deep clean your brushes, but not as often as you use to. Instead of every week, you might be able to push it out to every 2 weeks. It is expensive, but in my eyes it is so worth it.
If you want an even more detailed review of the stylpro and want to see it in action. Check out my video below, where I go into a lot more detail.
You can buy this from so many pharmacies in Ireland and online from the stylpro website, but I have found the Meaghers Pharmacy are by far the cheapest and thy very often have discount codes to make it even cheaper!!! They also have fantastic customer service, which makes life a lot easier!!
